if you check http://www.usastrawpolls.com/ you can see that Ron Paul has won most straw polls and post televised debate polls, often by landslide numbers, but the mainstream national polls (gallup, usa today, the big 3 networks) still show him as 2-3%. I wish someone could explain how this is possible?

First off, Ron Paul is in the Republican primary race, he is not a third party candidate.

The way gallup, and many of the polls shown on tv, is based on hard wired telephones and populations not on the do not call lists. Who owns home phones anymore? and who answers surveys on them? It is probably not representative of the voting population, especially younger people.

Ron Paul, has demolished and annihilated competition in all debates, and has shown the strongest straw poll records among all the candidates. These straw poll numbers are a little more complete, as they include the whole voting populace. Not, just the ones that own home telephones.

The media has shied away from showing results from these polls, as it would propel Ron Paul into the spotlight. Dr. Paul is running on a platform of limited government, reducing spending, and restoring personal liberties. Which, means many of the entitlement programs, would be cut leading to many of the people owning or higher ups in the media would be losing a lot of money. Just one of the many reasons for the little tv time.

Also, the media knows, with someone like Ron Paul in office, there would be little scandel. In 20 years, Dr. Paul has had no run ins, and is called "The most honest man in Congress", by Senator John McCain. The media makes money on controversy and scandal and the media must align themselves with where the money.

The Iowa Debate:

Well I guess the candidates who you keep seeing all over the news are the ones paying the highest dollar to keep their face in front of the audience.

The polls that you're referring to are also paid for by the candidate that wants the poll to show that they're winning - so the polls are slanted to favor the candidate who paid for the poll before they ask a question.

Ron Paul isn't even mentioned in the majority of the online or phone polls, so how can people vote for him if he's not an option in these biased polls?

Personally, I prefer a leader instead of a controller or dictator. I think Ron Paul is a refreshing breath of fresh air with hopes of a better tomorrow for families of the USA without the government control we suffer from today. I don't know about you, but I miss the USA that I learned to love as a child and pledged allegiance to. Do today's children even know the Pledge of Allegiance?

And our 2nd Amendment right is not about hunting for food. It is about protecting ourselves, our families and our nation! Ron Paul believes the US citizens should have a right to defend themselves.

Ron Paul is not only a first tier Republican candidate, he is coming in NUMBER ONE in the majority of the straw polls after the debates.

Ron Paul's Head-to-Head Records (Win-Lose-Tie):
Ron Paul v. Rudy Giuliani: 31-5-0
Ron Paul v. Mitt Romney: 24-12-0
Ron Paul v. Fred Thompson: 21-14-0
Ron Paul v. John McCain: 32-3-0
Ron Paul v. Mike Huckabee: 30-4-1
Ron Paul v. Sam Brownback: 32-2-1
Ron Paul v. Tom Tancredo: 33-1-0
Ron Paul v. Duncan Hunter 32-2-0

Keep dreaming.

I went to the Iowa Straw poll. He didn't even come close. I think Duncan Hunter won Arizona and Texas's straw polls, and he has no chance.

And besides, Ron Paul doesn't think there should even BE votes at straw polls. Oh, you missed that one? Check out this story and please, explain it to all of us dummies out here.

http://www.midiowanews.com/site/tab1.cfm?newsid=18690446&BRD=2700&PAG=461&dept_id=618467&rfi=6

Oh, and here's my favorite. Stories about "exit polls" indicating that Ron Paul was the winner. Hmm. Well, I voted at the Iowa Straw poll, and I didn't see ANY exit pollers. Then again, I voted at Hilton, and there were 3 other polling places, so maybe, just maybe, the smaller of the voting places right next to Ron Paul's tent MIGHT have indicated that Ron Paul was winning. Then again, I watched Washinton Journal on C-SPAN the next day, and I called in, and someone from Webster City also called in, and according to one of the stories, only 19 votes were cast for Duncan Hunter, and two of us called into C-SPAN the next day. Wow, Duncan Hunter should be PROUD that 5% of his voters called into a national show the next day. Maybe I should knit something for him once I get done with my current project. I think Cong. Hunter would like it if 2.5% of his supporters at the Iowa Straw Poll made him something nice.

Look, your guy's a clown, and the court cases he's put up against the straw poll votes, which I would like to remind you and everyone else mean NOTHING AT ALL, show it. He should look into votes of things like high school elections and stuff like that as class president election of Mormon Trail High School in Garden Grove, IA has more repercussions because someone actually has a JOB TO DO after that election versus the Iowa Straw poll.

By the way, the average graduating class from Mormon Trail is about 30 per year. Small town Iowa schooling.

I am sorry that Ron Paul failed to understand that the Iowa Straw Poll was a Republican Party of Iowa fundraising event and meant nothing when it comes to the caucuses, nor anything at ALL to the general election. If he felt he was a tool, he could have Rudied, Johnnied, and Freddied it and not shown up at all.

I hope I haven't shattered your dreams. I would feel bad if I had stolen someone's dreams because if you take someone's hopes and dreams, you have taken their soul.

Probably because many Democrats and Independents are voting in those polls and not registered Republicans or conspiracy.

Probably because it is a two party race, Democrats and Republicans, they don't even want to consider a third party.
