Formula-feeders swear that their baby slept better because formula is thicker and takes longer to digest, but I've found this to be untrue with a couple friends who have formula-fed babies. They sleep LESS than my breastfed daughter.
I guess it depends on the baby and it's ability to digest formula.

It can take a week or more for a baby to get used to the change. My son was at Children's Hospital for 10 weeks (He was 11 weeks early) He was given pumped breast milk in his feeding tube (Mixed with formula to put weight on faster) and he woke up every 2 hours. Once he came home he was put on all formula and he slept for 4 hours.

does he wake up because he is hungry, or what? breast milk is the best, at least for the first while, he needs the immunities you pass thru the milk, it is allways best to do this, and way cheaper as well, plus it helps the child bond with the mother and have a better sence of comfort, being that way, if you continue to feed him with the bottle, you will notice that he requires more as he grows, but there are alot of variables as to why he doesn't sleep straight thru

Perhaps the child is hungry overnight. It could just be timing- the baby could have been going through a growth spurt or teething or have an ear infection. It can have nothing to do with the formula at all.

It is likely that if the change was sudden, that baby has an upset tummy. Babies actually are more likely to sleep through the night on formula than on breast milk, although realize that this is a generalization.

Aside from the difficulties in digesting formula (see your other question) breastmilk also contains hormones that make baby sleepy and during the day melatonin levels in breastmilk change to help the baby regulate their own melatonin cycle which is very important to sleep.

Babies actually tend to sleep for longer stretches when they drink formula. Your child is probably waking up because s/he is not adjusted yet to the switch.

My son slept better once he was on formula. It may be that his body needs to adjust to the change. Good luck.
