I had some albino catfish before but they got ill and died all in a short space of time. I had a fair amount of tonic salt in my tank... Would this be why or might it have been something else?

It's possible the salt caused it. Catfish are not very tolerant of salt, maybe in very low levels, but definitely not a lot.

They can tolerate some salt at low levels, for a short period of time-like for treating ich. And, it needs to be added to the tank slowly over a couple hours, diluted in some dechlorianted water first. But for long term/permanent use, no not a good idea. It's possible that the salt caused it, hard to say without knowing any other symptoms.

you're in all possibility conversing approximately Cory catfish. the reality of them being Albino has no longer something to do with the form they are. you will detect albino variations of many fish, it relatively is a genetic illness the place the floor is lacking pigment. interior the wild it is uncommon through fact the fishes organic protection from predators is commonly camouflage, with albinos it relatively isn't any longer precisely camouflaged anymore and that they commonly get picked off via the predators. interior the aquarium pastime they are very undemanding although and extremely frequently sought out via fish keepers. So the albino area has no longer something to do with the species of catfish you're in seek of, it relatively is purely a version of that species. Like I stated on the right, and others have stated of their solutions, you're in all possibility searching for a Albino Cory Catfish.

Yes, the salt caused it. Salt damages ALL catfishes' livers, and kills them very slowly. If you want to keep more cory cats, do partial water changes until the salt is all gone.

Catfish can be very sensitive to salt so it may have affected them.
