Well I am getting ready to sell my Grand Prix and now it won't start or jump. The starter didn't show any wear last time I started it, I haven't tried to start it in over a year. Where should I begin? New battery?

The first thing to do is to examine the battery. If the battery is low on water, it will not jump. On that car, you will have to remove the windshield washer reservoir, to gain access to the battery! Check the cable connections also. Charging the battery with a battery charger, it might help.

Do the lights come on when you try to start the car with the jumper cables on? Do they dim when you turn the key to try to start the car? If the lights do not dim and the car will not even attempt to start when the key is turned, it may be an issue with the security chip in the key! Try spraying some WD-40 in the lock cylinder to clean out any residue.

If the lights dim when you are trying to start the car, then the battery may be too low (even with the jump) to start the car. The starter could be locked up (a good hard whack with a hammer may free it) or the engine could have seized!

check out cleansing the injectors, and battery terminals first, use gumout within the gasoline tank to wash the injectors. unleaded gasoline does horrible matters to the gas passages whilst left too lengthy and now not walking or being flushed with contemporary gasoline. if its been sitting for a yr, an oil difference is so as too.

if it has been sitting for a whole year chances are the battery is bad and if it does not start after changing the battery it may be the fuel in it has gone bad. have the old battery tested first and if it is bad get a new one

yes without a good battery no vehicle will accept a charge, the battery has to be able to allow the voltage to pass through it,if its bad it wont allow any voltage to be accepted from another source,so it wont even try and start,id replace that first, then you,ll have voltage to work with anyway, then it may start and run, good luck on it.
