Not so much churches but rather right wing fundamentalists who are looking to do battle with anything that falls outside of their established "norms." There are bands that employ satanic themes but this is largely a myth.

The reality is that most "Satanic" and "Black Metal" bands are not Satanic but there are a few.
Cradle of Filth
GORGOROTH
Behemoth
GAAHL

You will find that most of the actual Satanic bands are from Norway, Sweden and Finland.
The myth comes more from the media and at times as a gimmick from the band or label. What really matters is do you enjoy the music and do you know the difference between reality and fantasy. I listen to a lot of Metal band that sing about Satanic subjects but I am not Satanic nor do I take the bands seriously.

Not only do the churches perpetuate the myth that bands like Marilyn Manson are Satanic, they attempt to further spread fear by saying that Satanism actually worships the devil. Though there are different branches of Satanism, many are atheistic and worship nothing of the kind - because the concepts are Christian in nature, in order to believe in their "devil" you would need to believe in their god.

Some black metal from Norway used to be heavily involved in Satanic cults and such. They used to burn churches, kill christians, etc...

Laveyan Satanism is practiced by Marilyn Manson, King Diamond, and a lot of other bands. They don't literally worship satan though.

Church people that anything that doesn't praise "god" is against "god".
So that's part of it.
Maybe not all of them believe that, but it's in the bible somewhere, and many fundies follow that rule and only listen to music that sings praise to the "lord".

But many/most of the Black Metal bands are satanic, or dabble in satanic themes in their lyrics or stage performances.

A lot of these bands also over-exaggerate their supposed Satanic influences to boost record sales and piss off parents. Children flock to music their parents hate all the time. Been doing it in rock and roll since the early days when white parents tried to ban their kids from listening to black R&B considered "jungle music."...thus that music became more popular because it defied parents.

its hard to know black sabbath used to be called earth until they seen a cue outside a cinema for a movie black sabbath.the bass player said aint it funny how people pay to get shitless so they called their band black sabbath.ozzy ozbourne admits that they milked it for success and if you listin to their songs or ozzy,s solo music its either about war or people killing themselves with drink or love or drugs the satanic part is very minimal.also they all have children and are loving parents i dont think thats satanic

this is for siksika (or something) who answered above somewhere. Taken from Wikipedia:
Gaahl is popularly known as a Satanist, although he in fact regards Satan as culturally and spiritually irrelevant, and only uses Satanism to promote his staunch anti-Christianity on the basis that 'we live in a Christian world and we have to speak their language', also using it for its confrontational value to counter Christian imposition. In actuality, he is a practitioner of old Norse Shamanism, and is opposed to imposition of one's own religious beliefs on others. Although Gorgoroth are a predominantly Satanist band (mainly due to founding member Infernus, as well as bassist King ov Hell), it is because of Gaahl's spiritual beliefs that Gorgoroth do not print their lyrics.

It comes from people who hate the thought of music (no offense to the bands) that sings about self mutilation, killing people, and sexual abuse
