I plan on making treat mugs for Christmas this year. I found plain white soup mugs, which are perfect. I would like to paint some snowflakes or another Christmas type theme on them. What type of paint do I use and what can I do to seal the paint so when the person puts them in the microwave or dishwasher the paint does not come off? I will most likely go to the local craft store. . .which is Michael's?
Thanks so much for your help :)

Your store-bought mugs are already sealed and kiln-finished. You can't add to them unless it's going to sit on a shelf and never go through the dishwasher. . You'd have to go to a ceramics place to start from scratch and have them fire it for you.

the kind of paint u want to use is "pebo ceram coat". just let it dry before u pu it into the dishwasher or microwave. go to the glass paint aisle of Michaels, u will find it there. U can always ask some one at the store to help u.

don't give up hope on your projet idea, take the mug with you to your local craft store, they will direct u toward the products that will work for your idea. im sure using a snowflake stencil, and spray an acrylic paint and finish...it will be suitable for use...if it doesn't work out you can always do something else creative with them this year as your gift...
