It depends, I heard they can live up to 30 years if they are in a large tank (over 10 gallons) and are properly cared for. Just to let you know, you CANNOT keep those 5 goldfish in a bowl (s)! You'll need to have 10 gallons or more per goldfish and a very strong filter.
Get at least a 50 gallon tank, a strong filter and keep the tank at 70-75 degrees.

Hi Kat, Properly cared for a fancy Goldfish can easily attain 10 to 20 years & the streamlined non-fancy Commons & Comets well over that.
Properly cared for means huge, well filtered tanks with lids or large predator-proof ponds that are regularly maintained to a high standard.

It really varies. I think the maximum lifespan is around 9 years, though. Unfortunately, most pet goldfish don't live that long. If you take good care of it, maybe expect a 5 year lifespan? Even if it is well taken care of, it could die within a week or year due to other unknown complications.

The glib answer is "till they die" but there are a lot of factors. They can live a long time if they are in the proper environment and are kept healthy. Buy from a reputable dealer to ensure that you get a healthy fish to start with.

Well, the longest living goldfish lived to be 41, but usually they live to be about 8-10 depending how well you take care of them.

It really depends. They can live from one week to 25 years. It depends on your tanks conditions, the size of your tank, what store you bought your fish at etc.
