Im from Florida and they came to my campus for a school information session and I love the school but can someone really tell me the truth about the area. I know many say its bad but is the school area bad as well?

The City of Newark as a whole is extremely poor, and the area of the university is no exception. A lot of very good schools exist in very poor neighborhoods, though, and to me, that isn't a primary criterion for choosing a school. If the school takes an attitude of helping to build up the neighborhood and help it become what it would like to be, I think the two can live well together. If the school's attitude is that since the neighborhood is "blighted", they can help it by tearing everything down and replacing it with their own buildings, there tends to be a poor relationship between the area and the school, and problems often ensue.
