my husband doesnt have his license yet although he's 26... i kno i kno shame on him. i hate relying on other ppl to do things for me and i really need to go out for a lil bit to grab a few things. i had my baby on the 8th and i drove til the very end of my pregnancy. is it really going to hurt me if i make a run to the store? how stenuous is driving really on the body?

Its not going to hurt you, just dont over do it. You get very exhausted very easily after delivery, its hard work, nursing a baby is strenuous on your body, and the loss of blood makes you anemic.

You dont want to make it a whole day of shopping, or a huge trip to get a months supply. Just get enough to get you through next week, turn around and come home. Dont lift anything heavy, and try not to do too much activity, it will make you bleed more and you'll get woosy.

Drink water while you're out, it helps you keep a clear head, also, keep some nuts with you, or better yet, a cereal bar with vitamins.

If you feel weak sit in your car and rest until you feel safe enough to drive. Remember, just because you feel fine doesnt mean your ability to react is up to par, you dont want to get yourself and your baby killed in a wreck.

Its already been a week, i think thats about when I drove for the first stime.

I don't know if you had the baby naturally or by c-section, but I do know from experience that if you had a c-section and thought you were going to drive, it would be a huge mistake. Yes, driving is harder on your body than you think. Don't feel bad about depending on others to help you out, I am sure those people absolutely love doing things for you (enjoy it now, cause they will stop eventually lol)! Call your doctor if you feel like you absolutely must drive and see what he or she thinks.

If your doctor told you not to drive you should listen to him. Ask a friend or family member to go to the store for you. Or your husband could walk or take the bus. Or you could take a cab. In the meantime your hubby should work on getting his license especially now that you have a baby and an emergency might come up someday.

You can drive but make sure you are VERY careful. You are probably still bleeding a lot and in some pain, but if you don't over do it you should be OK. I know after i had my son i didn't want to do a lot of walking and standing. I didn't actually drive until close to the 6 weeks.

It's not exactly strenuous. They are worried about you being able to brake properly - it might pull and hurt for you to brake. It's probably a good idea now that you have a baby for your husband to get his license, if he can. The reason I suggest that is if something happens to you or more likely to the baby and you need to go to the doctor it'll be much better to have 2 drivers available.

The risk is if you've got stitches, and you have make a sudden, hard movement like slamming on the brakes. Also, if you're on pain meds/anti-inflammatories, the side effects can affect your alertness.

I've had two deliveries so far, stitches each time, and the doctor has never advised me not to drive.
