Back in 2000, I met a guy during the millennium celebration in New York City. It was cool to see a man from the same town as me, so we became best friends. He told me he had a one-year-old girl. I didn't meet her untill she was three, and we clicked instantly. I watched that girl grow up.

She is eight now, and I just found out her dad hits her. I was shocked that my friend would do that to a little girl, especially since he's been boxing since he was ten.

Even though she's not my kid, could I win custody over her if I tried (she looks exactly like that Madison Pettis kid on that new movie, some people are nosey)?

well i dont think legally it is possible. but if u try 2 justify urself and try 2 find out the causes why the guy beats her own daughter, then u might come upto a conclusion......a better conclusion.....wat say?

Your concern is commendable, but are you ready to report the guy to social services? And if so, will you go to court to win custody? Will you be able to financially and emotionally support a girl child until she's 18 or 20? You will have to see a lawyer that specializes in family law if you answered yes to these questions. Go for it.

i know how that little girl feels and i wish someone could have done that for me, but in the eyes of the law you have to be family or godfather, due to it being a child passed on to a complete stranger (in the eyes of the courts). i'm really sorry, the only thing you can do is go to the police. best wishes
