I believe that the philosophical answer to your Q is this:
human nature contains both good and evil parts or elements. The universe, the Tao, which humans are part of have yin and yang elements blended in paradoxical ways. Chinese ethics is based on accepting and working with the nature of the Tao and is generaly less judgmental about the morality of human conduct than many Western Ethical theories -esp those based on the monotheistic religions of Abraham.
