How did you know when to start cutting out your baby's 2nd nap? How old was your baby? How did you know what time to offer the one nap? Did you also change the bedtime? Did your baby take a longer nap or sleep longer at night after you cut down to one nap?

My son is 10 months old and has just started to give up his 12:30pm nap this past week.
I have never forced him to sleep and never did anything "by the clock" like some mothers do. In the early days I just looked for the tired signs, gave him a big drink of milk and he would fall asleep. A pattern started to occur and I noticed that he always napped at 12:30pm then at 3:30pm.
Just this past week he drinks his milk at 12:30pm and instead of closing his eyes and falling asleep he gets up and crawls about wide awake!!! I just let him go and watched him for the tired signs. He started to get tired @ 3pm.
He has done this now for 4 days straight and he seems to get tired for bedtime a little earlier than normal @ 1hour earlier but waking up at roughly the same time in the morning.

Im not sure if there is any specific age recommended as every baby is different but they do say the older they get, the less daytime naps they have.

My cousin's GF's daughter took two naps until she was about 3 months shy of 2 years old. Totally depends on the child. She was still laying down when she was tired, so it was clear she needed 2 naps. She is now 2 years 4 months and only takes one short nap daily.

We had a great morning routine... We'd get up, have breakfast, play for a little while and then I'd put my son in his swing and he'd go to sleep for about 1½ hours. After lunch he'd take another nap for about 1½ hours. All of a sudden he just decided he wasn't going to go to sleep in the swing in the morning anymore. He still sits in it but just enjoys swinging. He still takes his afternoon nap but he sleeps for about 2½ - 3 hours. He just sort of merged the two! He still has the same bedtime routine. I think he was around 13 mos. when he started this routine.

I didn't take any initiative to make this change. I just followed his cues and went with it. Every child is different though.

Good Luck!

you may shorten the morning nap to no more suitable than an hour in case you nonetheless opt for to get in an afternoon nap. or you may attempt to save him up later contained in the day, and aspects a lengthy afternoon nap. It relies upon on the infant. My son is eighteen months and takes 2 naps at day care 9:30 to 10:30 and a million:00 to three:00. yet on the weekends I in basic terms provide him one afternoon nap at the same time as he begins to get cranky and that i enable him sleep it out. He is going to mattress round 8:30PM. also, 2 naps skill bedtime should be between 8 and 9PM. One nap many times calls for an before mattress time.

crankiness, trantrums, rubbing eyes means nap time. I instigated a nap time early on ansd a shorter one if needed for 15 mins. I noticed my son fell asleep in his macaroni if he did not get a nap. At about 4 a kids may not need the second small nap but my grand son still takes a 2pm siesta when hes with me or he is acting out.

I knew because she wouldnt go to sleep on the second nap anymore....if your baby does this...or wont go to bed at night anymore, then just make sure hes active at the time his second nap would normally happen. If a baby has one nap a day, it should happen after lunch...around 1.00 and last around 45 minutes....then bed at 6-6.30.
Dont let them nap after 2pm or bedtime is delayed....my daughter was not naping at all by 18 months...she just went to bed at 6.00pm

Noah's pediatrician advises 2 naps up until about 18mths. So, that's my goal. Right now, he sleeps at 11 and 3p. When he goes to one nap, I'm going to feed him lunch and then put him down. His bedtime will remain the same, 8p.
