I have been collecting Keychain puzzles. They are 2-3 inches and come in many different sapes. They are mostly from the 50's and 60's. They sell on eBay for 5 to 200 dollars depending on how old and rare they are.

How about Hagen-Renaker figurines? Most of them are fairly small (an inch or two long - max), not expensive, and are found in many card shops and assorted gift stores. You could specialize in wild animals or domestic animals or break it down even further by collecting only the cats or dogs.
