I was asking my wife if she would like a nice set of pans with a set of the rubber cooking utensils (so the pans don't scratch) Is this a good gift to get her for her birthday? She said no most all women dislike this as gifts. She would rather have perfume or jewlery or something of that nature which I can understand but is the pans as well as some other gifts a bad choice? Thanks for opinions and answers

It's not a gift you give your wife for her birthday. Your wife already told you that's not what women like, so obviously it's not what she wants on her birthday.
You give her the nice set of pans on a regular day and she will be delighted.

Pans are nice, but not as a special gift from you unless she expresses to you that it is what she wants. I love to cook, so pans along with a special little gift would make me happy, but I know some women feel it to be a 'cold' gift. Think she may rather have something that she feels you put much thought and effort into - if she has a hobby like art - getting her something she can use that way - or if she loves music, that special CD she has hinted on wanting. Keep your ears open, as most women tell you what they love to do, but many times no one is really listening to the clues. What I love most of all, are the cards and notes expressing how you feel; they mean more than any gift as they are a gift with meaning behind it.

I don't actually see it that way , what I have seen is guys giving a 1/2 azz rinse to a pot or pan + tossing the next thing right into it ! nasty as that is I find slobs to be equal in both sexes when it comes to an awful lot of stuff , not just the kitchen . I was a corporate trainer for a large chain + had to put up w/ an awful lot of diff people . The worst were younger , it seemed they did not know how to clean much less cook , maybe they expected mommy to pop up behind them + clean their messes right there in the restaurant . I create huge messes and have a good time doing it , I clean as i go also .

Some women do like practical gifts, most do not -- it might make a difference if cooking was a hobby to her and she didn't have much to use. The secret is to pay attention to HER -- are there things she says she wants? -- or looks longingly at (or talks about) but doesn't buy?

You already have your answer, "She said no most all women dislike this as gifts...She would rather have perfume or jewlery or something of that nature" -- if she said no then she doesn't then duh! Get her what she likes and wants!

But at least you asked -- "Its the thought that counts" only works when you put real thought into it.

Yes, the pans are a bad choice. It makes her think all you see her as is someone who provides for you, not someone you feel romantic about. If you want to get pans I suggest the two of you look at some together and buy them as something you need for the home, just as you would for anything else.

Giving your wife pans, utensils, appliances, vacuum cleaners...or anything of that nature is not really a gift to her...but a gift to the whole entire family....because everyone benefits from these "gifts".....Give her perfume or jewelry....something that she can enjoy for herself...

You said you asked your wife and she said "no". There is your answer.
Some women who want special pans or cooking utensils would love it, some women would love a power tool but if she says "no" when you asked her why would you ask someone else's opinion of a gift to her???

It's a great gift, for any other time in the year, but not on a special occasion.
It's like getting a pair of socks for St Valentine.
Would you like that? Would it make your day?
I agree 100% with her!
Get her a proper gift which shows that you thought EXCLUSIVELY of her, not of the house!
