I think I would. I never know 100% what I will do in any given situation, until it happens. However, if I knew the bank policy was taking the money from the teller, that made the mistake, pay, I would tell. I care more for an individual than a bank.

No, I would go to another bank and open an account. Then after about a week or two close the account, collect the interest. Take the money to a third bank and do the same thing. Each time I would take the interest and put it into the original account. After about 5 or 6 times I would go to the original bank and take the money to a teller and explain that I was doing my books and discovered that they made an error and this money is not mine. Maybe they would then give me an award in money for discovering the error they made in my favor.

It has happened to me & I immediately went to the bank & got the mistake taken care of. The mistake would have been found sooner or later. I think a person who didn't report it, is dishonest & may have a hard time securing a loan in the future with that bank.

ON several occasions, I have made errors, the bank has caught it and let me know...everytime, in my favor..perhaps a 100. here, 200. there...they always let me know that it was added to my account. I would recheck to make sure they were right, and they were.
If for any reason, the bank gave me 1000.00 in error, it would go right back! It took me too long in life to learn about Karma and what happens when you don't treat it right...pay back is a biotch! No thanks, I don't need that in my life. Banks are no more than glorified people when you get to the bottom line. All companies are...they are owned by people somewhere, somehow. And truthfully, my bank has been very good to me over the years. Goldwing

I will certainly go and tell them. It will be a load off my head and enhance my reputation in the Bank. The accounting system in the Banks usually are so precise that they will spot the mistaken credit in a week/fortnight. In case if I keep mum, draw the amount, eventually I will have to pay them back. The amount does not become mine if credited to my account by error of the Bank.

That did happen to me once. There was a new teller there and shegave me $300 more than I deposited. The bank did find the error, because they have to balance everyday before they go home. Sooooooo, the $300 was taken out of my account.

Something along those lines happened probably the second year we owned our house. The bank credited us with a mortgage payment we'd never made. We thought, OBOY! And, naturally, we didn't send in a payment.
Well, in the meantime, they'd caught their error, so we had to pay penalty fees for being late! Never again!

I'd tell them because sooner or later they'd come-a-knockin'! lol
IRS once sent me a check for thousands of dollars and the amount was so close to a payment I had made, not to mention the check said refund for overpayment...I cashed it AND spent it. Turned out it was a mistake and then they wanted their money back in full THEN!
Learned a lesson with that one

I'd call the bank and let them know of the mistake. Definitely.

This actually did happen to me and I was like you should I sit tight. I did go ahead and tell them they told me it would have showed up in the records anyway.
