Like another poster mentioned, some states have closed records. In those states you need to go directly to the locality or county in which the marriage or death occurred to view the records - and if available you would need to pay a small fee for a copy.

Some states don't allow records to the public but some states do. Look up "the state or county you want" public records and make sure it's the real states website, not some pay site. NY is one state you cant find anything online for.

if in the marriage took place in vegas
you can do the search for free in the clark county recorders website
other than that
you'll have to pay no matter what to find such records
