Probably not, but we all do it in one form or another. I go ballistic when I see a oil burner pouring out smoke! That is my air they are screwing with! And, it isn't fair of me to assume when I see a very big fancy house with fancy cars that I am lucky, for it isn't me with all that debt! It isn't fair of me to judge that someone driving around a dented old car that they have little money to spend, they just may! (they may have a lot more money than I for they do not spend it on new cars! ) I make no judgements as to brand or model...I don't really know one from another. Love and peace, Goldwing

It's not fair, and I don't have any time for people like that. I never cared what anyone drove. I don't notice people's cars now. We'll drive by a place & he'll say "so & so" is here, because he recognizes the cars outside. My guy has a '78 Ford truck, which he refuses to part with even though the repair expenses are getting worse every year & the gas mileage is awful. I bought my first new vehicle ever. I got it used since it had been leased for 6 months. It's a Chevy Silverado and we almost always use that now.

It may not be fair, but it is as much a reality as being judged by the way you dress. It is a just a part of life. When looking at neighbourhoods to live in, or motels to stay at, I sometimes look at the quality of automobiles in the parking areas. If many of the vehicles look very worn out, I wonder if I am in a high-crime area, or where the neighbours will be rude and difficult. Not always, but often, people who do not care well for their vehicles also do not care well for many other areas of their lives, and they have troubles that can cause problems for their neighbours. Sorry if this is not the opinion you were hoping to read.

Nor the label on your jeans or the model of sneaker you wear.
I've never been impressed by this and in fact have not bought a new car since the 70's. I still drive fairly new vehicles. My husband has lots of business with salvage so we tend to luck up on used cars and pay cash and live without a payment on any our vehicles. We actually have a luxury van for travel with McDonalds emblems and the embossed hamburgler, Ronald McDonald, McFies etc throughout the beautiful interior. The kids at the elemtary school ask every afternoon when I pick up my granddaughter if I brought them burgers. The van was used to transport exec's from the airport to downtown hotels. Proud owner of 3 used Fords.

Never got that at all. I remember when I was young, girls would go out with a guy just because of the car he drove. Never impressed me at all. Some of the most wealthy people I knew were driving beat up pick-ups in Nebraska. (cattle ranchers) They didn't need to impress anyone. Most people with old money or those that see money for what it is....aren't out trying to out-do or impress anyone. I mean there's cars I like....but certainly doesn't cross my mind to think they're better than me. Just like I don't think someone driving a junker is less than me. All I want is something that gets me from point a to point b safely.

No. I remember a story back in the day, when California tried to keep undesirable okies out of the state. One day a guy came to the border driving a beat up Model T loaded with furniture and other stuff. They tried to keep him out. He sued the State of California and won. He was a multimillionaire lawyer who was coming back from a trip around the country. He contested their use of the law that was unconstitutional. So, no, I don't think it is fair to be judged by what kind of car you drive.

Ouch. I drive a nice car, and keep it in the driveway, where nothing gets on it but guano -- and lots of it.
Hubby drives a 9-year-old family-type car that is parked in the pull-off in front of the house, under the pine trees. It's loaded with sap that neither of us can seem to budge.
Whenever I take my car to the dealer for warranty service, they detail it. His goes through the automatic car wash once in a while.
He paid for his and then he paid the remaining balance on mine when we retired. Who should be judged? And by whom?

My opinion is, that judging someone by the car they drive isn't always a true assessment. I have seen people who will drive a great car, even if it means putting it before the needs of their family.

My Mother in Law used to say never judge a man by the car he drives, if you think about it it works both ways. although not many beggars drive a Rolls Royce, but plenty of wealthy Gentry drive old bangers.

In OZ we hate Volvo drivers, its become a national past time to bag out Volvo drivers. They even use the anti-volvo feeling in ads and things.
It has entered our national lingo and become a well used idiom, and if anything goes wrong on the road then you are well within your rights to mutter "Bloody Volvo Driver".
We're a weird mob over here LOL
