The actinides and lanthanides are 14 elements each

They occur since a subshell called f corresponding to =3 is involved

lanthanides correspond to sbshell f in shell 4. all this elements have some electrons on the subshell 4f
actinides correspond to subshell f in shell 5. all this elements have some electrons on the subshell 5f

Since these shells are internal one , the electrons 4f and 5f are not involved in chemical reactions (which involve only external electrons) and have similar properties

Actinide and lanthanide elemants belongs to the f block so they should be found in the f block
