Rey Mysterio is a good wrestler. He can execute moves well, and his springboard moves are done near flawlessly. The "West Coast Pop" is his best move, as he executes it faster than most moves, making it a convincing finisher.
The problem with him is:
-He has gained weight since his injury. Actually, he's been gaining weight since he came to WWE, so his mobility is cut down greatly (possibly steroids?). His ring attire (the pants) also cut his mobility down
-He should NOT be wrestling heavyweights at all. How about placing him with the other cruiserweights in WWE rather than with heavyweights like Khali and Batista?
-The 619 is not a good move at all. It is hard to sell it, and the actual move is best done to fake out wrestlers who are standing outside

Hey Sub-Swoggle, hmmm interesting question!
Well, I have never really been a fan of Rey Rey, but I have to admit that for his weight, he does pretty good for himself!
He is an "ALRIGHT", that's "ALRIGHT" high flyer, but when it comes to ground wrestling, lets just say it's like Batista trying to perform a hurricarana!
WCW, ECW yeah he was good, but that's the past! He's now older, defiantly more heavier which has been just a few reasons why he is lacking talent! Now I'm not saying he is not talented, because in a way, he sort of is, but even just the 3 you mentioned Shelton Benjamin, Paul London, Shannon Moore, have more skill than Rey has and I guess one reason is also because they are younger than him, but is that just an excuse Swoggle? I don't know!
Rey brings ratings, but that's exactly like Cena and Batista! They all bring ratings, but can't really wrestle!
Rey may bring some fun and entertainment in the Cruiserweight Division, but put him in the Heavyweight Division and all you get is an over-fricken-rated Rey Mysterio!
I mean seriously, beating Randy AND Kurt Angle for the World Heavyweight Championship??? What's up with that?
Throughout the years, Rey has done some pretty amazing and impressive things, some in which alot of wrestlers wouldn't dare to do, but as you said "People seem to bow-down to him as a wrestler", well I'm sorry to say to all the Rey fans, but Rey hasn't earned that yet! I don't know if he ever will, because the only thing Rey is gaining at the moment...is weight!
So that's about it! I don't really know if this helped you Swoggle, because I myself don't really know the answer to this question!
Great Question!

Oh and Rey getting a #1 contenders match for the World Heavyweight Championship just a few months after returning?? Oh boy, that's f#cked up! Atleast things are looking Taker's way now!

Good Question Friend.
For years I've been hearing this "Rey Rey is the best CW of all time!" and just like I say back
Poppycock! I've got three words for that.
Jushin Thunger Liger
That's the greatest CW of all time, end of discussion.
I would nominate Rey for the #5 spot behind Liger AND Tiger Mask AND Eddie Guerero AND Chris Jericho
Rey Rey is good, damn good, but He's NOT the greatest.
What makes Him a great wrestler?
(In His Heyday) Phenomenal, Blinding Speed combined with superb Agility and a nice set of high flyer moves.
But that was years ago, now neither Rey Rey OR Liger are what they used to be.

Good question and you also make good points. Rey is a good wrestler if he were in Mexico, Japan, or even TNA.
However, in the WWE the style is totally different and Rey just really doesn't fit in.
I love NJPW, I really think Rey should give a go there because his days in the WWE are numbered. The longer he stays the worse things will get for him.
Having Rey wrestle heavyweights has killed the Cruiserweight division.
For his own career, I think it's time for Rey Rey to move on.

Rey Mysterio was and is a good little guy, so there is the David vs. Goliath thing going. And, since he was once a masked wrestler, he has that whole flying lucador thing going as well. Also, given the overall intellect in pro wrestling, any wrestler who can put three consecutive sentences together is considered someone to watch.

well sorry but is NOT an excuse. Rey Mysterio was great in IWA and WCW.. And if his character sucks at smackdown (because it DOES suck) its Vince fault and not Rey. WWE fans who don't like Rey is probably because they haven't seen him before WWE so this crappy character is what they have in mind, a Rey mysterio only usefull for heavyweights to beat him all over agan. That loser IS NOT Rey mysterio. So take it an excuse if you want, but Rey Mysterio IS a great athlete and a great wrestler, and you should see his previous matches to judge for yourself and stop calling it an excuse.

I'll try to explain why people consider him great...
I actually believe he is a very good Cruiserweight in the WWE..
He is for sure much slower than other true high flyers from other promotions..
He is no way a main eventer and in the Heavyweight division like Vince put him last year..
Maybe the fans consider him so great cause they have never seen high flyers from other promotions and it is too hard for them to believe that he is not great..To be honest,in WWE he is one of the best(WWE lacks of talent in high flyers)..
No offense to Rey and to Rey fans but if Rey is the best high flyer...what can we say for AJ Styles,Tiger Mask,Ultimo Dragon,Jushin Liger,Dragon Kid,Juventud Guerrera and even recently Paul London(remember ROH e.t.c) and many more..???

He has a little somthing about him. He is entertaining, puts in his all, high flyer style and he is a dam nice guy - I saw him at an appearance in Sydney last year. When I think of Rey I think of his happy smiling face in Sydney waving and posing for photos with the kids
Should never be in the heavyweights tho.

Today, Rey Mysterio is not a good wrestler. He is someone who is past his prime (though he's still young) but still has enough of his past popularity left to give him job security with the WWE.
If it weren't for the WWE booking him in matches where he's the underdog, his matches would get a "boring chant" ... He needs to be moved into the Cruiserweight Division to keep his credibility at what it is before it all diminishes away.

Um isn't the answer obvious?
Cuz he IS a great wrestler....duh!
Although I must admit, he's been a little slow and rusty lately. He better start improving a lot or I'll have to eat my words! lol
But seriously even though he's not the best right now, he's still way better than some other wrestlers I can name.
(cena, khali, batista, umaga, the miz)
