It is always better not to think in terms of "why" and "need" when asking these questions. Think "how did this come about" instead.

Sometime in human ancestry something favored the natural selection (better able to survive and produce more offspring with the same trait) of longer legs. There is speculation that longer legs gave human ancestors more ability to spot predators in the distance but no one knows for sure.

Interestingly, bonobos and humans are closely related primates and bonobos also have longer legs in relation to their torso and arms when compared to the third of the 3 closest living primate relatives, the chimpanzee. But, bonobos still live in the jungle so they may never have "needed" long legs to watch for predators on the prairies.

Because the ability to run is one of the advantages that we had over our ancestor's competitors. With legs just long enough to walk, we could not run very fast or for a lengthy period of time, and we would have starved.

*scratches head*

I'm going to say...but I really have no idea...

coz..the legs are made to support the rest of our bodies properly..if they were too short, and we had grown up rest of the bodies...we could'nt get around so easily.

*thinks to self*.."yes..that makes sense"
