We have found in this last week small round holes in our cotton underwear and one pair of socks. This is underwear that is worn and washed every week but is relatively new. We have found no other holes in any other clothes at this time. Not sure what might be causing it. Moths, poor quality material, too much washing detergent or something in the washing drum causing damage to the clothes?

Top loader washers are notoriously hard on clothes, moths can cause the damage but you would notice damage to other clothes, roly poly's eat clothing and carpet as well so if you have noticed any in your house and the clothes are in the floor then they are likely culprits, Some cotton clothing is made very thin and just can't stand up to normal wear. If you can see through them pretty well then that is very likely to be the problem. Too much detergeant would just make you itch.

I was was finding something similar with some cotton t shirts and reckon they got the holes from the catches on the back of my bras. Since then I have bagged my bras when washing and I have had no more holes .....wonder if this would help for you?

If you are using bleach, that could be the culprit....try cutting down on the amount.

If you are not using bleach, I'd say it is cheap fabric.

I hope I've helped.
