Hey, i'm 13 years old and i am pretty big for my age(6'1 around 150 pounds)and i'm thinking about a new bat.
At the moment i use a Demarini Vexxum 32" 22 oz(i play senior league so i take full advantage of it)and i have sick batspeed with such a light bat.(I train with a mizuno maple bat)
But is it better to get a -3 bat for my size? the biggest homerun was 360 feet with the vexxum and i'm thinking about these bats:
Miken The Freak 33'' 30 oz

You want to use a bat that doesn't swing you. If You are able to start a full swing, And able to Stop it when in full motion, Then proceed to the next heavier bat, When You are not able to stop it, Then go back to the previous one,
OR
If You are a power hitter, Wanting HR's Bat speed is the key, Not the weight of the bat, You want a combination of bat speed and ability to control the bat, If you feel that the bat swings you around after a missed strike, That bat is too heavy, Me personally, I use what ever bat I can get bat speed with, With bat speed, And a little concentration, You can control your hit placement, FASTER then using a heavier bat,
Hope this helps.
As for using a softball bat, Every league may have different rules, I strongly suggest that you ask a league official before doing so, It may save you the embarrasment.,

No, you can't use a softball bat, they have a different interior than that of a baseball bat. As for the size of the bat, you should not be concerned with the weight of the bat, but more the control over your swing. Bat speed is not generated by the bats weight, it is generated by mechanics. Sometimes when younger players do not have perfect mechanics yet, and move to a heavier bat, bat speed will slow down, and be at a more controlled state. However, if you are not ready to move on to a heavier bat your body with naturally develop a flaw in your swing forcing you to swing under the ball with the bat head being top heavy. Creating a flaw means that your body will compensate for the heavy weight of the bat and change your swing. There is only one person who can determine if you are prepared to move on to a heavier bat. My recomendation is to borrow a teammates bat and use it in live game situation. Batting cages are all about timing, but use of the bat in live game situation will give you an accurate measure as to what you need. Remeber though that the -3 bats have a smaller barrel, comparable to that a wood bat. Also if you so choose to move to a -3 bat i recommend you look into Akadema, i've been nothing but pleased with mine. It's has the same look and feel as the old Omaha XS which in my opinion is one of the best bats ever made, that would be the silver omaha xs it was a 2002 model i believe.

The bat has a very balanced feel, which means it's not top heavy. As for the size it is up to you to determine that. Being a big player has nothing to do with the bat size. Barry Bonds used at 33 inch bat to which he choked up on. Plate coverage also comes from mechanics not the bat. It's all personal preference. One man's joy is another man's pain.

Well your a pretty big kid, and for big kids you wanna use all your whole body to hit the ball, which generates bat speed.
For you I suggest the stealth (33" 30 oz) and make sure its a -3 (drop 3).
And no you can't use a softball bat unless its a softball league.
Good Luck!

I used to use a 34 inch 32 ounce
wood bat and it worked very well
slim handle and heavy at the bat head.
