I use Tunebite and do not have any problems at all with the quality.

It all depends on what the quality was like to start off with and what your converting it to.

If you are going from CD to mp3 (128kbps - which is standard in most players) then yes it will. If you like your music and want to convert it to high quality then try a lossless file format (iTunes can do this and it works with the iPod). If not try 192kbps - 320kbps. The better the quality you convert the files to the more memory it will take. A standard 4min song at a standard bit rate will be about 3-4mb's where as the same song converted to lossless will be about 25mb
