AUSTRALIA - Copyright Questions!!
Question Details: I have taped many "home movies" inside my church over the past four years... and I'd like to make mini-movies out of them to sell in the church as a fundraiser... what issues am I dealing with??

Do I need to have absolutely every single persons approval to use their image on my movies?? Am I allowed to show our band playing songs that we sing that aren't written by us? (I know we can use our own homegrown songs)

What other things might I need to consider? I don't want to break any laws!

Reminder - I'm in Australia...

HELP PLEASE!!

Not sure on Aussie law but I had a "workaround" for teh UK and also for Norway now I moved.

Do NOT "sell" the discs.

Make the films, and if people "donate" over a predetermined amount to the fund they are "given" a gift of some of the youth work etc the church does.

I did one of a concert for a friend and used that loophole. Not selling, it was a "thankfou" for a contribution to his years financing on a mission project

If you are rated as "press" you can video and photograph anyone and strangely enough people can video their neighbours, but yours is a grey area, if you record it as a documentary you might be OK. Call the ABC or SBS I guess

Sorry I do not KNOW.... Australian Law...!

But.... most movies.... containing People... NEED A... "MODEL RELEASE!'

Ask the Pastor or the Board..... I am sure they will give you the Go Ahead!

Thanks, RR

P.S. I would like to buy one....!
