I say USC is the most overrated. They lost to Stanford, almost lost to Arizona and UW. They killed Neb but who hasn't this year.
KU is looking real good but they'll slip up b/c they're not use to winning.
I think USF is underrated. I'm a believer now. I thought they were maybe in over their head and not that good, but they continue to prove week in and week out that they belong in the top 5. Yes, I know their conference is weak but a few years ago VT and Miami were in that conference and if those teams were playing the way USF is playing they'd be getting all the attention.
OU is getting a lot of attention and they deserve it. They are a top 3 team in the country.

It seems everyone thinks OSU is overrated. Maybe. But they've done what only 4 or 5 other teams have and that's gone out every week and taken care of business. They do have the meat of their schedule coming up so we'll see.
A team that I keep forgetting about is Oregon. They have a great chance of playing for the title. Maybe a rematch of last years Ore v OU.

Of all the teams to hold the #1 spot in the country this year, Ohio State will be the weakest by leaps and bounds!

Most underrated: LSU. They are #4 in the BCS, when obviously they should be #1. What matters is not what your won-loss record is, but how you look and whether it sounds right to consider you the best team in the nation. It sounds right to consider LSU the best, therefore they're the best.
Most overrated: Well obviously, that's Boston College. Their recruits are Notre Dame's rejects. When they send letters to guys who wind up at USC, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Michigan, the potential recruits laugh and use the letters as paper towels.
Let's review why Boston College is overrated:
1. If they're so good, then why did Tom O'Brien leave? O'Brien is building their program, beating a 1-AA team like Wofford more convincingly than Boston College beat its 1-AA team on the schedule. That's what matters. Not what your win-loss record is, but whether you kick the UMass-es, North Texases and Southwestern Louisiana States in the teeth. If you don't drop sixty on teams like that, then you don't belong in the National Championship.
2. What happens to experts like Dienhart, Herbstreit and Steele, all of whom bemoaned O'Brien's departure? Phil Steele picked them last in the Atlantic, so Boston College must have reached their quota of ACC wins. Thus they're overrated.
3. Their quarterback is being discussed for the HEISMAN??? Since when does a quarterback from Boston College win the Heisman? Please.
4. Boston College's rushing defense is ranked #1 in the nation, on the basis of stopping teams like Wake Forest and Georgia Tech. Since when do they have meaningful rushing attacks?
5. Boston College has a graduation rate of over 90%. They're not serious about their football program. If they want to beat real teams like Virginia Tech, Clemson and Florida State for once, they might want to spend a little less time in the classroom, and a little more time in the weightroom and on the practice field.
There's far more I could say, but at root we have to go by reputation when we set up the preseason rankings. What sounds right? Boston College and South Florida don't sound right in the National Championship. If they win, then their opponent was just looking past them. I'd rather see a 10-2 LSU vs. 11-1 OSU matchup, where you know each team takes the other seriously and where they can beat a Middle Tennessee State by fifty. Then you'll see the best football the country has to offer.

BC is highly overrated. Virginia Tech will dominate them when they plays. Last nights game against Notre Dame didn't show a top team in the country, it didn't even show a top team in the ACC.
USC is eh. They have pulled off some big wins. I would like to see them run the table but with this season, no one knows what will happen next. If they play Rutgers or Cinncinnatti like they played FAU, bad things will happen.
Ohio State is overrated just due to the fact they are number 1 by default. With game against Illinosis, Mich and a game at Penn State looming, I don't see them running the table.

To be fair to USC, Washington is going to be a 8-4 football team this yr, so this isn't the sorry UW team we have seen the last handful of years. However, USC is kind of like the Yankees and Cowboys, if they are just good, fans and the media hype them all to hell. They aren't dominating ppl like they use to do.
I think Ohio St is extremely overhpyed. They play all of the tiny, not even good on division 2 level type schools in Ohio and call that their nonconference.

Overrated - Ohio State, South Florida, Kansas
Underrated - Oklahoma, Oregon
And I would definitely disagree with your assertion that the Big East is a weak conference. The Big Ten is, but the Big East is not. I just don't think South Florida is as good as #2 or #3 in the country, and I believe they lose Thursday in Piscataway.
