Ugh, I feel for you hun...I also had the flu while pregnant with my first.. When I asked the doc he said I could take sudifed and tylonol, which really didnt help much! I would definately ask your doc if there are any other medications that are safe for you. Or do a search at some medical type forums on the internet about home rememdies.. Most of the others suggestions sound pretty good and I wish I knew about Yahoo Answers 3 yrs ago lmao... (yes I am kinda new in this) Good luck and I hope that your flu is gone soon!

I think there is a big difference here regarding someone havin the flu or the common cold.
I had the flu a couple of yrs ago and i was knocked off my feet, I could not move and was a prisoner on my own settee for 3 days, sweating until i was drenched through, shivering so much my body ached from head to foot, my legs were soo painful even to the touch, i cried just to get up to use the bathroom, which thankfully was down stairs! I really did think i was going to die. I was certainly not well enough to use the pc! And now i know why the vunerable ones are immunised against it, I wouldnt wish having the flu on my worst enemy, and most certainly wouldnt want to have it again.

There are no medications for viruses. In some cases they can give you a booster that helps with viral infections, but not always, and they tend to avoid it when pregnant.
Even the flu has a 10 day run. You'll be just fine, your body is equipped to battle viruses even when pregnant. The only way that it would effect the baby is if you allow a high fever to continue without breaking it with medication.
Double check with your doctor, but in cases with fever they will have to take ibuprophin and alternate with a whole dose of tylenol. Even while pregnant. Unless you have placenta trouble. Until you can talk with your doctor keep your fever down with tylenol.
Drink plenty of water, and try to keep purposeful food in you, like chicken broth and other wholesome calorie full things.

What do you mean by " the flu"? Is it a stomach bug ( which is not any type of flu" or a cold? ( The actual strain of the flu usually doesn' t show up until late nov/dec).
Unfortunately there is really nothing you can take, but there are somethings you can do like using sinus rinses ( kind of like saline drops but they go up into your sinus) . You can get those at Wal-Greens. Also, Tylenol is always safe....use a humidfyer in your bedroom. Antibiotics are safe, but if it's a virus, those won't help. You can always call your doc and see if there is anything that you can take.
Good luck

Oh you poor thing. Im 6 months preg and there is a lot of bugs going round at my work. Im bound to get it soon! I know you can only take paracetamol. Speak to your doc, pharmacist or your midwife. I have read that if you get a cold or the flu whilst pregnant, it does no harm to your baby. Make sure you get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids. x

Hi,
I think the best thing for you to do is to just drink lots of fluids for time being and have bed rest and get an appointment for the doctor tomorrow.
No one on here can give you any medical advice - what they may have used during their pregnancies, does NOT mean it is the best thing for you to take.
We also know of no medical conditions you or the baby may have.
Go to GP and talk to them about what you can take to be on safe side.
Good luck!

Flu is a virus. Your immune system will beat it soon enough. All you can do is lay in bed and keep warm. Take Lemsips. Get somebody to look after you. Read a good book. Get well soon.

Best thing to do is rest eat well and stay hydrated, i personally would steer clear of medication, can have too much anyway, try to stick with natural stuff but be careful as that too can be bad in pregnancy, stick to honey and lemon tea for sore throat, or use vicks for blocked nose etc

Ah poor you!
Paracetamol is safe but nothing else.
Try and get an early night, take some cold sweets and wrap up warm, I'm just coming over a bad cold myself!
