Yes. As one who has done a good bit of both, the hurt of losing generally fades over time, but the growth in spirit that comes with loving is permanent. It is also important to note that you can indeed love more than one person at a time, so the loss is mitigated by those who are still there for you. Sometimes even by people who were not obviously your friend until the loss.
My Steve committed suicide almost two years ago, which was a loss that threatened to do me in altogether. If it had not been for my friend Lexi upstairs, who took care of me and started calling me "Mama," I might have given in to the temptation to follow his example. Now I realize that however much I lost, I also gained. Not just Lexi, but a whole circle of friends I would never have gotten to know if I had remained focused on Steve for the rest of my life. I think that's part of why he did it: to free me.
Even when I have lost from the person finding someone else to love, as happened with Bob, I now remember him fondly and realize that since he eventually married the girl he left me for, and they were happy together, he did the right thing. I remember the great times we had, but do not regret that I moved on to what turned out to be even better.

Wow, this is more than likely an emotional question for some.
I can answer this in two parts. First, when you love someone and in time they pass on, it saddens you and you begin to wonder if you can love someone as dearly as the other.
Second, loving somebody and eventually finding out that infidelity is involved would break a heart. This makes you wonder also, if you can trust another and fall in love again.
To close, yes you can and the meaning of love is stronger than before. And you will find that love.
Never to have loved at all is not what life is about.
I have learned that everything that happens in our lives is for a good purpose.

Yes and no. The man I truly loved died in January 2007, and people are mentioning that saying to me now. It doesnt take the hurt away or make it any better, because I knew exactly how it felt to be truly loved, and now I have lost that love forever, and that is the most painful thing to face. :-(

To have loved and lost is still better than not knowing what love is. Love, even when lost, gives you memories to hold close to your heart, lets you see and feel what it can be like and ( when you are ready to try again ) gives you hope to have that feeling again.

Yes it is because if you had never loved you would be forever wondering what it was like to experience such a wonderful feeling.
