Stanford over USC
There was no line favoring App State by as much as the points Stanford was getting. Finally it was a quirk in scheduling. Had Oregon been the opening game, this would not have been a top ten team getting upset since UM would have had a loss already and would be out of top ten. The bigger upset would be OSU getting clobbered by Michigan in 1969... an average Wolverine team whopping one of the greatest college teams in history.
Does App. State beat Stanford the first game of the season? Most likely. USC clocked UM in January. Stanford was a far inferior team beating a much superior team. QED

App State vs. Big Blue (U of M). I know people say SC vs. Stanford, but you gotta remember the following-
-SC plays Stanford on a annual basis, and they are in the same conference as SC, so this is not a once in a lifetime matchup
-at the time SC was #2, everyone always brings their "A" game when playing someone ranked that high.
-SC had been playing poorly the past couple of games due to injuries and lackadaisical coaching and playing, so a loss was bound to happen, just like their loss to Oregon State last year.
-App State is not even in the same division as Michigan and this has a lot of implications- they don't have the same opperating buget to hire things like better coaches, have better training facilities or stadiums, and they don't get the same media exposure that Michigan would. As a result, App State does not have the recruiting power that a school like Michigan has this means not having the student atheletes with the same abilities that a team like Michigan has.
- SC may have the worst point spread loss, but I follow SC a lot, and they have consistently never met the point spread in the past couple of years especially in games where they are heavy favorites.

Still, AppState over a good, but not great Michigan team has to be the year's biggest. Mich. and many of it's player probably didn't ever know which state the Mounties were from before the game.
Stanford is at least in the same conference and same state as SoCal, so there is some familiarity.
(SideBar)- Is that REALLY your pic? Those looks AND KNOWS football(((((((IIL-smile)))))))))

The Appalachian State upset is still the biggest of the season. It's been a weird season so far though.

Has to be Oregon State upsetting USC. Oregon State was unranked. Texas was favored over Texas Tech but by only 4 points, if I recall. Might have been 6.

UK vs LSU. I was there and it was incredible. LSU fans showed up in town Friday night, and they were talking smack like a number 1 team does. They were laughing at the spread (9) and said UK would be lucky to lose by just that much.
When UK stopped that 4th down in 3rd 0T, 20,000 people rushed the field.
Incredible.
I live in a college neighborhood and I fell asleep around 2am to kids partying and still chanting, C-A-T-S CATS CATS CATS!
