Friday I went to see Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married?" I must say it was an amazing movie and I enjoyed it. As of late I have been hearing critics (movie viewers) call Mr. Perry a racist for having all black movies...

I am one to celebrate that he has POSITIVE all black movies, where the characters are portrayed as professionals not gang bangers and drug dealers. I enjoy seeing his movies because they're liberating in a sense, and are a way to see the other side of black life, the side so many forget or refuse to acknowledge.

My question though would be, if Perry is racist for having all black movies, how many producers are guilty of the same? How many "feel good" movies have we seen where the cast, and extras, were all white?

Why should this even matter? The movie is great, (go see it good date movie for couples and singles) you can have a good time, it does good to not cast the race in a negative light, so why all the bullshi*?

Mark you went way off base here and your questions show your ignorance. Blacks did initiate a back to africa movement, which was burned by the USA. Land grants werent given to the repatriation activists, and why should blacks want to go "back" to a place they know nothing about?

Those organizations and programs you listed were implimented BECAUSE of white racism and discrimination... not to do, conversely, what whites have done to blacks.
Moreover, where the hell did i say ANYTHING about slavery? I didnt even mention it, but perhaps you see a black avatar, and read this question and instantly think: "black woman griping about inequalities again, must address slavery."

Africans DID sell others into captivity, but they were already slaves (ie one group loses a battle with another and becomes their servants) the british portugese and spaniards are equally guilty. America developed this system of chattel slavery, that wasnt what the African dealers expected.

cont, way to talk about the issues. It is a fair question, given that for centuries there have been alll white this or that and the few times where there are things which benefit blacks whites cry and bit*h and moan about how unfair it is.

I am of the mind that some of these programs need be broken down and rebuilt, as AA generally only benefits wealthy blacks... I am not here advocating for segregation, just trying to see why whites are bit*hin about the movie being all black.

Oh and to the other person, its not illegal to have an all white cast for a movie, and there are still some that do.

One more thing to mark, who probably came here to be a jerk...

"Let me ask you this...if America was SO BAD, how come all the freed slaves and all of their ancestors since haven't all gone back to the tribe they came from in Africa?"

NOT ONE BLACK PERSON, save Alex Haley, KNOWS what civilization (tribe is a pejorative, we dont call the french a tribe and there are some african nations which have the same population as the french lol) their ancestors came from. You have NO knowledge of american slavery or you would know that blacks were not able to keep their african cultures, they were not educated, were not at ALL able to keep up with their individual histories. Read a book and get a clue.

There always has to be some prejudiced jerk huh?

mark please shut up... your great great grand daddy died to "free" the slaves. BULLSHIT that war was faught to undermind the south, and slaves were freed to undermind the southern economy. Read a book.

I am one who can embrace my prejudices, I likely am prejudiced and biased. I'm human! lol. I believe you're confusing prejudice with racism... I didnt call you a racist, I said you were prejudiced, then after reading the same type of crap in one of your questions, I sent you a private email trying to HELP you understand some of the things you've asked here. GROW UP. Of course you'll think I'm just a black woman who wants to complain about injustices, your prejudice allows you to cast all blacks who even mention racism, in that light. Just so you know, my great grand father is WHITE, my family is VERY mixed, my husband is white. BUT that doesnt hold me exempt from prejudice. I'm just as guilty as the next. The difference b/w u and me is I can admit it. That also means I can see it.

I'm white and I saw the movie also Friday night with my white, black and latino girlfriends. We absolutely loved it and did notice there were no ratings, announcements for number one, two or three at the box office on Saturday, like the other all white cast movies introduced the last two weekends. Hmmm?

I would have never thought Tyler Perry would be considered racist for his casting options. Watching the movie for entertainment and sisterhood was my thought process. I was boo hoo crying in that theater!! Can't tell you which part because I do not want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it.

It is amazing that when Tyler was paving the pavement looking for someone, anyone, mostly white Hollywood to even glance at his script, they all turned their white noses up and scoffed. Now that he'd barricaded, surpassed them regardless of trying to keep him down, he didn't have to minimize his standards and produced a pimp, hoe, hoodlum, goblet toting, pants hanging down their azz, booty shaking, boobs out ghetto azz movie. All that said, he has to be the one called a racist.

Wow, it never cease to amaze me. Tyler Perry has arrived years ago and it wasn't easy. I will support all his books, movies and plays!

I totally agree with you. Although I haven't seen the movie yet, I have heard the same criticism. I don't get it.
How many movies have an all white cast? Seriously, a few movies that have no white people and these people get upset? what is wrong with the world? Why can't they just enjoy the movie/acting?
Tyler Perry Rocks...I <3 Madea!!!

Why should this even matter? The movie is great

Well, you summed up how white people have felt for years with that statement in regards to Jesse Jackson, the REV Al, the NAACP, the black coaches association, the black football conference, the hiring standards, the 10 extra points for college admittance for being black..etc..etc..etc...

Yes, blacks that WERE enslaved were absolutey treated in a terrible light..it's horrible that this happened in our countries history. The biggest FACTS that are missing in the story is that it wasn't white people in Africa strealing these tribes, it was spaniards and the portuguese. Yes, white people in the South were enslaving them on a premise that they accepted.

It's been a long time since slavery, it hasn't been that long since equal rights, BUT in todays society in America, If you are any race and can't make a successfull life, it's your own fault. It's because you're too lazy and didn't do for yourself. It's not because your black or hispanic or white or asian..it's because YOU FAILED YOURSELF.

Let me ask you this...if America was SO BAD, how come all the freed slaves and all of their ancestors since haven't all gone back to the tribe they came from in Africa?

Fair question...wrong forum, but fair question.

TYPICAL ANSWER: Calls me prejudice instead of just hearing what I am saying. That my friends is a racist woman who can't fathom that other people can have an honest opinion of the whole issue, without casting stones. Sweetie, please tell me that you're not that shallow of a person that you can't understand that MY GREAT GREAT WHITE GRANDFATHER DIED TO FREE YOUR GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER...get it...no you don't. You're only focused on atrosities in America against you, not the fact that there were some people that helped get America on track in the right direction...and she calls me prejudice, nice!

I think Tyler Perry is a awesome producer, actor and writer. I agree I think it's about time that everyone gets to see the other side of black people. I do not think it's racist i think it's wonderful and I noticed all different types of race in the theater when I was there...2 THUMBS UP TO TYLER PERRY!!!!

He's not a racist. He had a white man in one of the plays. He's celebrating african american talent. That's a beautiful thing. Besides I know he works with other races as far as the production of the movie is concerned.

Now, it's not the case anymore.
It's been a few years now, that it's been illegal to have movies where all the cast is white only.
But, a good film, is not about the colour, but about sending successfully a message to the spectators, or at least, achieve the goal they intended to: comedy, horror, adventure, etc...
So, to me, a good movie is made of good actors; Those who made you FEEL, laugh, cry, jump..
When the story grips you, when you find your heart beating, when you just want to see more!
