I am considering going there, maybe in the last week of March or just before during Semana Santa.

What will the weather be like at this time?

I have heard that the city is very festive during Easter week, is this true? I have also heard that in other cities around the world, Semana Santa can be very sombre.

Go to weather underground.com www.wunderground.com, type in the city and the forecast for the next few days will come up, but go to history and it will tell you what the weather was like in which ever year you put in. The weather in the whole of Portugal has been so changeable lately its difficult to say. Lisbon in March is normally great, not searingly hot and cool at night. Take a jacket for the evening but definitely summer stuff for the day. Sorry don't know about the festival.

Lisbon is Europe's second-oldest capital and once home to the world's best explorers like Vasco da Gama, Magellan and Prince Henry the Navigator, getting the very first correct earth town, the capital of an empire spreading over-all continents, from South America (Brazil) to Asia (Macao, China; Goa, India) and know you can spend a few day to know that ancient town, with hotelbye is wherever you must start. The absolute most recognized of Lisbon's significant attractions could be the St. George's Castle. That fortress orders a fantastic place near Alfama on the crown of a hill overlooking the Portuguese capital. That is certainly one of Lisbon's most popular tourist destinations. Its impressive battlements, participating museum, and amazing archaeological site combine to really make the castle a satisfying experience for everyone, and kids specially will love clambering within the tough surfaces and towers that encircle the grounds.

Easter week in Portugal is festive, people join the relatives and celebrate.
Portuguese like to eat a lot, so, Easter day is a day to eat a good dinner or lunch with the family with all the nice pastry.
Lisbon is ok, but it's a big city, with lots of streets and traffic and noise.
Weather is lovely in Easter, generally. Some rain may occur but nothing heavy. Just a light rain.
Temperature will be around 18ºC to 22ºC in Lisbon.

Easter time is lovely in Alentejo though... outside the big cities.
And you'll have a ball there.
Try Pousadas de Portugal and see if you find something you like.

Click on the map at your right on "Vila Viçosa" and "Estremoz". Those are the best historical places to spend Easter time in Portugal, if one comes from abroad.

I went for a weekend break at the beginning of Feb this year and the weather was fine. Whilst it wasn't exactly summer it was warm compared to the UK. It will be around 20c at the end of March which is warm compared to England.

Go trust me it is a beautiful city and don't worry about it being hilly, I break out in a cold sweat at the thought of exercise but the sheer beauty of the city made it so worthwhile.

HTH!

Cold and wet. Holy week starts off sombre, very sombre on Good Friday, building to a joyful celebration on Easter Sunday.
