Fast food places are always serving hamburgers and sandwiches, but why not hot dogs? I mean, some people like them better than hamburgers, and plus, it seems like they are easier to make. I just don't get it!

This is an interesting question. One I have ask myself for quite awhile.

Here in Southern California there are, of course, a couple hot dog restaurant chains but as you pointed out the other fast food joints stay away from serving hot dogs. Yes there's A&W but that's about it. Jack in the Box's menu is all over the place (tacos, egg rolls, breakfast, burgers and chicken) yet they've never had hot dogs. Carl's Jr. may have started out as a hot dog joint but no dogs in a LONG time. Same goes for Taco Bell (no really - read the history on their web site). Pup and Taco got bought out by the "Bell" quite awhile back. And, it seems to be the same with all of the major chains. Oh sure the "mom and pop" burger stands usually offer a dog or two but not the big name places.

And yet, a wiener takes up less storage space than burgers, they're much easier to heat (they're already cooked), and keep warm (a boiled water dog can sit in the water for a long time and it just gets better). They're just as easy to prepare, easier in some cases. And the profit margin is higher. Oh and by the way, in most surveys regarding "favorite fast food" hot dogs rank third (Hamburgers 1st, Pizza 2nd).

I have NO idea why the burger joints ignore the frank, but since I'm about to open a hot dog joint of my own, I'm glad they do.

most places do either burgers or chicken or seafood. HOt dogs are kind of there own category. But a few places do have them. Sonic, A&w some wendy's etc. ALso if a fast food place sells a hot dog they cant jack the price to high who would pay 5 dollars for a hot dog meal?!

Where I live in the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, D.C. they are served in our "fast food dining area".

I find them all over the place, where I go in the downtown areas.

I guess that it really depends on where you go. For instance I would never expect hot dogs to be served at Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald's, Burger King, nor Panda's.

This is my help from Washington, DC U.S.A.

Some do. We have Coney Island stores here in Ok. Very few of remember when McDonald's, at least in Ca. had hot dogs. And Hires root beer.

Restaurants have limited storage space for food and they will store and serve food that drives sales (food that increases sales and drives inventory turns). So if hamburgers or chicken sandwidches or burritos sell more often than hotdogs, they will get the space in storage and in the menu.
