A majority of my desktop icons now has a red dot in the bottom left hand corner, which has never been there before. Also my folders have the same red dot.

That's very strange!!!
If your PC is slowing down, or acting strangely, it's probably infected with malware. Use the Y!Answers Discovery Tab to learn more about "malware".

The red dot in bottom left hand corner means the file has been backed up to the web using SpareBackup (most likely obtained on a 'freebie' disk from PC World.)
