As frustrating as it is to leave the sacks full, having your pitcher walk in the WINNING run is worse.
When a pitcher walks in the winning run, there is generally at least one other baserunner that was walked. The one thing a defensive position player CANNOT defend is the walk. The walked in winning run leaves 8 men on the field feeling impotent. They are utterly powerless to stop it.
When you load the bases, at least you have somebody making an effort to score the run. There is hope and positive excitement about the possibilities. The disappointment here is unrealized potential. That is much easier to deal with.

Leaving men on base is very annoying in the fact that it only takes one swing of the bat to bring them home....Clutch hitting is key to scoring runs....Walking in the winning run IMO can be and should be avoided by pitchers....It also helps if the umpire is consistent in calling balls and strikes...but pitchers should be smart when faced with a this type of situation....Also the pitching coach should know the scouting report on all opposing players and should give that information to the pitcher...and the pitcher should also study tape as well as the scouting report so he has an idea of what pitch to throw at what time

Both are bad situations. I'd have to say when the pitcher walks in the winning run, because that equals a loss. It really stinks that the other team didn't even have to work for it and the game was handed to them.

At least with leaving the bases loaded you have another shot at scoring some runs in another inning.

Leaving runners on could just be the other team's pitcher has your number. Sure you got loaded(although some may be walked) but I don't expect any guy to get 27 strikeouts. Having my pitcher WALK IN the winning run it far worse. That's not even a case of poor offense/defense. That is a case of poor pitching. Sure in the top you at least SHOW poor offense that you can't get a run to tie it back up(and may have saved a GS by walking that guy with bases loaded) BUT when it is written down it is written down as the guy was walked in, not your crappy team can't get a hit to save the pitcher's record.

So hard to choose. I suppose I would go with the pitcher walking the game winning run. Because if its game winning it is over and there is no chance of a late rally.

They're both frustrating. The pitcher walking in the other team's winning run has to be worse though.

"drunken sacks" ahhh one of my favorite phrases (along with "ducks on the pond")

actually both drive me crazy - however walking in the winning run is a killer and worst for me...

(or the freshman quarterback on the 10 yard line deciding to run the ball with only 12 seconds left... as what happened to Cal yesterday - poor kid must feel awful)

I hate the second one more, because it means you lost the game. You can leave the bases full several times in game and still win, even though it's frustrating, but frustrating is better than heartbreaking.

"Oh dem bases on balls!" I can't remember who said it but it is so true. I find it so frustrating when the Pitcher walks batters in key spots, don't give them the run on a silver platter, make them work for what they get! The load bases get me mad also (I like your phrase, never heard it before)

It is frustrating when my team leaves 3 ducks in the pond. But i hate it when the winning run is walked in.
