This is a question for Scots. As an American of Scottish ancestry I tend to think yes. But then I am an American because my ancestors supported Queen Mary and were "asked" to leave England and go back to Scotland and later had some disagreement with King George.
On the other hand, the formation of the E.U. makes me think that the U.K. needs to remain as strong and intact as possible in order to ensure it's Independence.

Just a question, where do you hear a lot about this? If you are in England then I suppose you will be getting a different view than us in Scotland. Culturally we are really quite different countries & we've always retained our own legal, educational, religious & financial sectors.
A lot of people are fed up in Scotland with the way things are run in the UK parliament. Take for example when Maggie Thatcher wsa in power. The majority of people in Scotland back then voted Labour, but we were lumbered with this monster simply by merit that England has a bigger populatoin than us. Thatcher did a lot of damage to Scotland & the North of England (who could ever forget the Miner's Strike or Poll Tax).
For a long time after we got the Scottish Government we had New Labour (Old Tories) North & South of the border. Now we are in a new position where we have the SNP in Scotland & the Old Tories in control at Westminster.
I don't know if Scotland will get independence, but I am very happy that at last things seem to be changing for the better here.
Sadly I have a feeling there might be quite a few Xenophobic comments here. For the person that said rebuild Hadrian's Wall...we could do that if you want, but England would be losing a lot of territory wouldn't you since the thing is in England, not Scotland.

It would be hard to justify Scotland becoming separate when the current trend with the EU is that individual countries are losing more of their individual identities and being absorbed into the all-encompassing European Union.
Nevertheless, all the components of the United Kingdom ought to have their unique identity (i.e. Wales, Scotland, England etc) It is interesting that currently the U.K. in some ways manages to have an each-way bet. For sporting competitions such as the Rugby World Cup, Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland each compete with the same status as countries, yet in the government of the United Kingdom their status would be more equivalent to states in Australia or provinces in Canada.

Scotland existed as an independent nation for around eight hundred years and it has been part of Britain for much less.
Many states around Europe are breaking up and that is probably a natural process.
The electorate of Scotland will decide if they break away and it seems likely the people there will vote for this.
Many ties with the rest of the UK would have to remain but things like taxation and the military would be the premise of a Scottish Parliament.
But stand by for answers to include whisky, drugs, kilts and England subsidising Scotland, all of which will be posted by plonkers.

It is a very emotive question this one, I personally believe that we in Scotland are a very proud nation. My heart tells me that yes we should run our own affairs as we are a more socialist state compared to the rest of the UK.
However, my brian says that it might not be such a good idea, the union has kept the peace between our nations for the last 300 years and that's not such a bad thing.

Scotland has a different legal system, a different work ethic and I believe that scots have a different world view. That is not a bad thing but it makes them different to the English.

Yes- It has its own education system and Scottish people have much cheaper uni education too. I used to be separate with its own King.
No- The same language, attached to England.
So I have more arguments for yes- so yes I think it should be separate.

Nope, I don't see the point. This island is small enough without creating more barriers... Plus Scotland would have no military Scotland left the UK.
