Scary times indeed.

The argument could be made that this will deter criminal activity because there is always a chance their victim might be carrying a weapon.

To me, it seems inhumane.

its in their ridiculous constitution. Most americans have not even left america (Except the europe tripping college kids but they dont really ever leave america) when i was in texas i was told that people are allowed to carry guns. what the hell????? so when a fight starts in a bar instead of punching each other around a bit they will just start shooting instead - but 'its the constitution' so it must be right. Have a word with yourself america!!

I read the article from the bbc and if you go up to a very nervous gun carrying person and ask for the time you could easily be blown away. Its like when the virginia tech thing happened and that gun happy guy said about all the other students should of been armed. Great idea, give everyone a gun, your streets will go back 120 years to the wild west. How about getting rid of all the guns, wouldnt nobody having a gun be a better idea?

The State of Florida has some of the most lenient gun laws in the US. If you are a resident and not a convicted felon, almost anybody can get a carry permit.
It also has statistically some of the lowest firearm crime rates.
The state has also backed up those that carry with the "Equal Force Statute". It says that you was use lethal force to defend yourself at any time or place. Previously you had to be inside your home or vehicle.
There is also a law pending in the state legislature that would stop businesses from preventing employees from carrying a legal firearm in their vehicle on company premises.
To previous posters:
If you Outlaw guns, only Outlaws will have guns!!!!

That is an old news story, at the time this came out there was loads of stories in the UK papers saying if you go to Florida on holiday do not get into an argument with anyone as they are allowed to kill you if they say they felt a bit threatened.
Crazy

You have always been allowed to shoot someone who challenges. To get a concealed weapons permit, takes about 1hr to do the course. These are always available at gunshows,on the saturday and sunday.Gunshows are on every week in Florida, cost $5 admission plus $30 for course(£15).With this you can carry a gun concealed, except in banks, bars etc.If you do not have a concealed licence,it must take you 3 moves to fire gun.Open glove compartment, take out of holster,Fire....BANG BANG.

No, that sounds like one of the saner laws enacted in quite a while. Why in the world should decent law-abiding citizens have to cower in fear or run away from a criminal threat?

Sounds like a normal day in Yankee land. Time to stop going to Florida for holidays, more likely to be returned in a body bag.
