I must have when I lost my father, who died just after his 47th birthday. Much of the middle part of the Seventies is a blur for me because we lost my father then my maternal grandfather then my maternal grandmother, with only a few months between. My mom has a hard time letting herself go and crying, so I cried for the two of us.

The only person I might have cried nearly as much over was the only boy I ever loved. His parents didn't want him to marry an American girl and ordered him to come home. Back then, we always obeyed our parents, with very few exceptions. I didn't know that only a few years after losing him I would lose three more people in my life, all of them forever.
