Well in my country I haven't seen any Blu Ray or HD DVD up for sale yet... But what I've read and heard is that either of them plays HD quality movies... The fact is that I haven't see any HD motion or image yet...

What improvements does HD actually provides or differ from our normal DVD picture? If possible please give me some example, is it something like the water or trees of the movie looks clearer? what more?

Honestly, in most cases, I can't really tell much of a difference between the standard definition and the "high definition" broadcast of some channels. Pretty much it's exactly what it says it is, higher definition. Higher resolution. You're supposed to get better color, a cleaner crisper picture that will blow your mind away. Personally, if it weren't included with my TV service (Verizon FiOS), I probably wouldn't pay extra for it. National Geographic in HD is freakin' beautiful.... Basketball in HD makes me want to vomit... and not because of the HD aspect of it... hard to explain... And some of my local news anchors were not m meant to be seen in anything but standard definition.

On the flip side of that, the extra definition as really increased my ability to solve cases on CSI in less time.

The difference is amazing. The HD picture is so much more defined, clearer and not fuzzy. I subscribe to DirecTV and they will show the same movie on regular HBO and on a HD channel. Switching back and forth really shows the difference. Of course you have to have a TV that is capable of HD.
I would not buy a Blu Ray or HD DVD player until the industry standard is set. How many people ended up with a Betamax player when VHS became the standard?
I did the next best thing. My 52" Samsung TV has a DVI (Digital Video Interface) input so I bought a DVD player that has a DVI output. It basically convertes every DVD to HD. I can watch the old classics in HD.
