Telling the truth always helps, its hurts most of the times initially but if you dont, it hurts for the rest of your life.

If the truth is going to offend someone, hurt someones feelings, or cause problems, omission is a better alternative to lying. Lies are not necessary, and some things are just better off not said. When telling someone something, consider how that person might feel. There are times when someone needs to hear the plain hard truth, but careful consideration should always be employed since you cannot "unsay" words.

In a situation like you just described, it's very hard to say if your should have spoken out. It sounds like a matter of the heart... and strangers aren't the best judge of whether you should have spoken out of held your tongue. We know nothing about the situation or who was involved. Quick, uninformed answers are usually bad answers.

Yes you should.

Why lie?

If you lie, you will have to keep telling lies to cover the one before it up.
Thus in the end...you'll probably end up sticking your foot in your mouth anyways and blurting out the truth unintentionally anyways.

SO.......just tell the truth and be done with it, and avoid the dramatics of lying and being scandalous.

Now you can just send that person another kind message and just let them know that you hope they don't take what you had said before the wrong way.
Don't keep yourself guessing, just give that person a call and say what you need to say to them.

good luck.

How should we define LYING ?
One can lie by simply not telling the truth but we can also lie by omission.... omitting to volunteer the truth. -- lying to a friend by not volunteering some truth that we know. Does lying have to be only a positive act ( to TELL the truth) or also simply by not volunteering the truth ?
Imagine a world where we could NEVER, ever, conceal the truth ? Terrifying !!

Yes, but a little white lie can make the difference between Euphoria and Tears and being tactless is really annoying.

That way you won't have to remember which lie to cover.
If the message is seen the wrong way, you could explain what you meant :~)
