I once drunkenly told a cop that he couldn't take me without his gun.
He could.

Well if your light was out, he had a legit reason to be pulling you over. So chill out. It's the law.
Now as for him questioning whether or not you were drinking, that's a legitiment question as well...considering you are out late and driving none the less. So don't be offended it's a routine question for pull overs that late at night or early in the morning.
*So what really gets me about your story though, is why did he have you step out of the car and search it...if he had no purpose to? I mean that doesn't even make sense at all...UNLESS you were displaying signs of being intoxicated, and you did or said something to make him suspicious of you...therefore he wanted to be sure that you were telling the truth.
Consider yourself lucky.
Also for future reference, never get an attitude with a cop or anyone in law enforcement. You'll only make yourself look like an idiot and you'll only find yourself with a ticket and a nice fine to pay, instead of a kind warning.
I'm not sure if you realized it, but when a cop pulls you over for something minor like that...they're not out to bully you or indimidate you in any way. They're just doing their job, and if they find that you are violating the law at all...they will make it known.
Anyways.................
**You can't be mad at the cops, they're just doing their job.
Now you should be mad at yourself for not making sure your car is in code with the law...you should always check all of your lights, we learn that in drivers-ed :) Remember?
So don't be mad because you put this one on yourself, had you been a little more vigilant and kept up with your cars maintenance....you wouldn't have had a problem.
................without cops are world would be chaotic...even more so than it is now.......think about it.

Don't forget that Son of Sam was caught on a parking violation. If he saw you pull out a bar then he might of used your plate light to just check the situation out. Also, if your plate light is out then if you were to do something wrong then no one could read your plate to get the information. In example if you did a hit and run no onw at the scene could read your license plate as you were getting away. The lights are there for a reason. I know it sounds lik e a pain in the ***, but hey, it could serve you in the end as well.

Fix your damn lights and you wont have that problem. Like it or not, you BROKE THE LAW by having a light out. Alot of criminals intentionally unhook the license plate light to keep cops from being able to read the plate at night. Thats what made you look suspicious.

Cmon, you can say what happened....Did it have something to do with a nightstick and your butt? LOL
Seriously though, they are just doing their job. OK you were not drunk but alot of people are on a saturday night and considering how many alcohol related deaths there are per year, i personally don't mind them doing a BS stop to see if i was drinking. Just think, a drunk person that they get off the road could have been a drunk person who would have crossed the median and collided with you.

We wouldn't want to mess up that pretty face of yours.
Besides. We are only people trying to make a living, pay our mortgages, and send our children through school.
My advise for you is to request a ride along with your local police department. Get a look at the other side of the facts.
Contempt prior to investigation will keep you ignorant to the realities of life.

wow
that's odd
where do you live?
i live in California and cops don't do that here as far as i know
but if there was no REAL reason for him to pull ou over , or PC (Probable Cause)
you can take him to court
but u may have een swerving a bit on the lanes without knowing it
(happens to alot of friends and family of mine)
but if he says your LP light was out, I'm not sure its PC
UNLESS your taillight was out or you cut somebody off etc.
but I'm not suggesting you DO take him to court

Arizona cops in Mesa are worse. I was riding my motorcycle, (happened to be on "Cinco de burrito, corona drinkin, whole the mayo") and got pulled over for (safely low speed) pulling my safety glasses an inch from my head,, to dry a tear that splashed from my eye...onto the lens...thus obstructing my view. I had to go through all the tests, (oh and for the record...don't even do them more than once...they are re asking you to re-do so they can lie in court, and say you kept failing) the moron impounds my bike, then after I blow a .00001, blood and urine totally clean...so instead of being a stand up guy and just apologizing for impounding my bike, he throws not 1 but 2 ! DUI's on me with what must be a serial killer mentality prosecutor. Two days later the headlines read.."Traffic Cameras costing the city of Mesa is losing 100K a month", ahh so because your too stupid to put cameras to ticket people, up properly....just feed of of innocent tax paying citezens, by making up fake crimes, to drag them through kangaroo court. Thats the 2nd time I have been railroaded, and very seriously considering leaving the country. I have 3 sons and 3 grandsons here, but this "fraud freekin free for all" thats going on is keeping an advanced high achiever, in poverty. Both Dui's were recently dismissed, but it costed me alot of money and time. Police sould be like firemen. Dont call us we'll call you....we are already paying for your blue suit and doughnuts so just stay the 'f out of or way, until we require you to draw a chalk line or whatever. Tax paying citezens have enough day to day struggles in life without predator facist scammers, doing the bidding of a greedy police chief. The Federal government pays these agencies for each "body in a bed or body in a bag", and they think we were put on this earth to be their pet fl!ck. why cant they do something productive or pick up papers and pull weeds at the park. Oh and by the way, you rarely see a motorcycle rider in the one State where you could ride 355 days a year, because of AZ's attack drone "kick the dog" mentality, too stupid to realize, that if you made them exept from MDV fees, and let them get out of evveryones way on a small size, low gas use, low pollution, mode of transportation, alot more people would ride, subsequently freeing up the road ways, and they woudnt have to spend billions to widen and increase roads, They dont allow "lane splitting here" (thats going to the front of the line at red lights) Stupid people...a motorcycle so light and accelorating speed, will never be in the way of a car or truck, once that light turns green they are 100 feet ahead before you can get 1 mph....but they honk their horns and whine like jeolous babies, not realizing that if you take away all the reasons for someone to ride a motorcycle THEY are just going to have another smog spewing gas guzzlin truck in front of them. but see attack drons don't know how to think reasonably,...they are too busy skimming it all off the top, until enough of us give up and take the medication disability government check, and the whole system collapses......The police in Tempe have been nothing but high integrity, and I have an ex brother in law friend who is a CO, so consider, I am not trashing law enforcement as much as I am sticking up for those officers who are honest, reasonable, and fair minded....who end up the ones, victims of assault, by someone who would consider violent revenge as solution to their frustrations. To me its always some self doubt fabrication, fear of ones inadequacy....to be corrupt, violent, non-inclusive, can't compete so cheat etc...is some level of a recalcitrant child with potty in their pullups, throwing a temper tantrum.

They are doing there job and the ones you should be mad at are the assholes who ARE out late drinking and driving.
It's also their job to carry a gun, which doesn't make them any less tough. They have to make sure they can protect themselves against some loser who decides he doesnt care where his life goes and tries to shoot.
