NOPE! These are the Intel Dual Cores:
1. Pentium D and Pentium EE- old tech, high Ghz, high wattage
2. Core Duo- 32bit only for laptops
3. Core2 Duo- latest tech, 64bit, moderate to high Ghz, low to moderate wattage, highest performance
4. Xeon (Paxville, Tulsa) - for servers

The names are confusing but no they aren't the same. In some instances the intel dual cores are upgradable to the first generation of core 2 duos but NOT the newer core 2 duos. So be careful if you're planning an upgrade.

Yes. They do, The current Intel product named "Intel Pentium Dual Core" actually uses the same core/architecture as Core2Duo's.

With the exception of less cache memory and less FSB still. So you end up with the slowest performing Core 2 Duo's.

a core2duo in basic terms isn't waiting to tax a present day ideal end pics card.... eg E6600 taxes HD6970 at ~30% so so you might stability your aspects or have a planned stepped improve course that finally ends up balanced or you're dropping money.
