I've had my 360 for 15 months so far. And for the past 2 weeks I've been getting the 3 red lights. I realize this is a common problem, as Microsoft admitted there was a design flaw. I have a few questions.

What causes the RROD? I read it means "general hardware failure", but what happens specifically? I've read that Microsoft never publically admitted what actually causes it, but many people say it's overheating, and that Microsoft used cheaper wiring which gets melted/distorted?

Can buying a Intercooler prevent the RROD?

Are there ways to fix it yourself at home? From what I understand, sending it to Microsoft means waiting 4 weeks -- something I don't want to do.

Has Microsoft corrected this problem on newer models? Meaning, if I were to go in the store today to purchase a Premium or an Elite; does the same probability exist that it will get the RROD?

It's sad because I think the 360 is the best system out (games, graphics, online service, cheaper than PS3).

The intercooler is more or less a weight to add to your 360.

....Microsoft is correcting the problem with a smaller 56 nm (?) CPU drive that i am pretty sure is codenamed "Falcon"

-Some ways help your 360 would be to lay it on its side so the disc reads better, and to keep it elevated off the ground so it doesn't overheat.

-And yes, there are several DIY ways to try to fix your 'Box.
This is the most creative way I've heard of ......
1.) Wrap your xbox 360 in tin foil and place on a non-flammable surface.
2.) Get out your hairdryer, turn it on Hot, and heat up the tinfoil.
- Supposedly, this technique will solder any lose connections inside your 360.
However, I would recommend trying this only if you cannot get it repaired for free or like to set things on fire.

regrettably, no. The infamous crimson ring nonetheless terrifies xBox 360 gamers everywhere. it style of feels no count how plenty money microsoft places into the situation, there is exceptionally much no beneficial consequence. yet regardless of that actuality, they are thoughts-blowing with the alternative of a crimson ringed console. they provide a three year guarantee on the crimson ring on all new consoles. Plus... i in my view hate the PS3... in simple terms get the recent xBox... that is far extra useful.
