I could write you a novel but the short answer is you can't.
All you can do is be a friend and if people aren't interested well not much you can do.
I've long ago given up. It's not worth the bother. I just go about the business of living and talk to whomever I encounter in my day that seems open sharing a moment in time with a passing stranger.
Hopefully along the way, you'll find new friends, but really, I've accepted the fact that people come and people go.
The nice thing about the internet is there are always people to pass the time with and they tend to be a lot more consistent than "real life friends" not that online friends aren't any more real, but you know what I mean.
They say strangers are just friends you haven't met yet. That's true, but you still have to careful with strangers especially the young ones who don't have enough life experience to get their radar functioning properly.
I think people go through different phases in life too, and things change and they change. But real friends are consistent and loyal and although life changes they should always be there as if nothing between the two of you ever has. That's my take on it, but people rarely meet those expectations. I find when you need them most is when they disappear. Friends who are there only through good times are not real friends.

I guess one could keep asking them to join the living.....there is also begging and pleading...if all else fails try a bribe.

I will show utmost care by showing love towards them and keeping in contacts regularly apart from attending to their needs.
