Oh, the easy answer. Selfless? Hmm, so you let the homeless come into you house, take what they need, blah blah blah. Selfless as in I pay my taxes?
We are selfish by nature. I am fairly selfless with getting my kids through college, but if I was selfless, I would have no way to do it. Creative people should be allowed to profit from their creation. Hopefully, if one day I have 30 billion dollars, I can start a 20 billion foundation.
Perfect worlds do not exist. So, I will do what I can, but selfless is mostly just a dream.

I would say selfless, when I think about it, I figure that the wants and needs of everyone else is much more important than mine, I am only one person. That's not to say that I'm not sometimes selfish, because I am. It would be impossible to be completely selfless, and I'd like to think, impossible to be completely selfish.

Then again, isn't being selfless in a round-about way also being selfish? It makes us feel good to be selfless, and to make other people feel good... so... I suppose that could be selfish, but in a different way.

Hmm...

Rational selfishness is better than selflessness, which is by definition irrational. However, irrational selfishness is no better than selflessness and is only the other side of the same coin. Rational selfishness is a wholly different coin.

See sister everything is dangerous when it exceeds its limits!!!!!!!! is not it?

being selfish is a bad thing because you will not think about others when you are selfish but in life sometimes we should have some part of selfishness which will not harm others....

in contrast being so selfless is a character of "Yogi"s or the seers we are not yogis but we need to be selfless when it does not harms us and our society so finally we should behave as per situation but preferably please don't become selfish....... Namaste

In the short term being selfish may prove to be better, but in the long run being selfless is better. By being self-less one can gain confidence, courage and good will power to put the things in proper prospective.

I think each person is capable of both, and we all behave selfishly at some times and selflessly at other times. I suspect that we need both, and that both come with benefits and risks.

I say that being selfless is better because it is more likely to encourage building a rapport with other people. We are social animals, and much of our strength comes from our ability to care for each other. Selfishness seems far more isolating to me.

"Selfish" means concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure or wellbeing, without regard for others."Damn the world! I live for myself!"
On the other hand a 'selfless' person is the one who is fulfilling the pupose of creation by God, namely,to empathize with fellow being and rushing to help him.His concern for others is supreme over his concern for himself.
If only just half the people of the world were to become 'selfless', the world would be a happy place to live!

It is important that we are selfless so that we donot feel extremely let down by defeats. By being only selfish we generate more competition around us and lessen the peace that we already have within us.

Gandhiji was unselfish. People then were that way. Arundhati Roy and the other lady of Narmada Bachao can be called unselfish.
As political parties went during freedom struggle- Congress was unselfish when compared to others. Unselfish is when you dont want anything for yourself. But it was better than that it wanted the good of all.
These days every political party is just too cheap. No real principles. Every party just wants to get power.
Lets however forget politician scum.
Probably even succesful Bill Gates is doing good in the end. Wanting to be successful can be selfish. But succesful people do change lives theirs and so many others.
