20 * 12 = 240l

This is my thinking.....

If it's a quarter full when you begin and 20L makes it a third full, then it takes 20L to fill 1/12 of the tank.

(1/3) - (1/4) = 1/12

So if 1/12 is 20L, then 12/12 or one whole tank would be 240L.

20 * 12 = 240.

Quickly, the difference between 1/3 full and 1/4 full is 1/12th of the tank. Then the tank is 240 L in capacity.
