How can an internet novice find the page rank for a site they developed? Is there a site where I can simply go and type the address of the site and find the rank?

The big daddy of web site ranking is Alexa http://www.alexa.com They rank every page from the most visited to the least. Don't be surprised if you're not there. It takes a lot to get noticed.
