To achieve a doubling in that sort of time you will need to get involved in something where there is significant "value added" by your involvement in the deal. If you have enough spare time, you might be able to add some value through knowledge or sweat equity to this amount of capitol and achieve something, but as a straight "investment", I doubt.
What knowledge do you have of the true value of some class of items? Occasionally you can make large profits over short terms by finding something that is offered for sale (e.g. ebay, craigslist or classifieds) that is significantly underpriced or in need of minor repair and buy it, fix it, and resell it.
If it was $40K or $400K, you might be able to "flip" some real-estate with a minor remodel, but at $4K, you will need some lesser valued commodity.

In order to do that, you will have to get lucky and choose a stock that will double in 3 months. Also, you can buy stock options. They are very risky and you stand a good chance to loose all of your money. The options can double very quickly. Try in the money 3 month options if you want to take the risk.
You could buyl a 3 month option to purchase a piece of real estate. Then find a buyer for the property and sell them the option for double what you paid.
