When people ask these questions they are not "just seeking attention." At least 65% of them are truly suicidal. I know this from personal experience as a suicide couselor. Do you want to figure out who the other 35% are after it's to late? Why is Yahoo deleting these?

Unfortunately, it is probably on the advice of lawyers. This is really no fault of Yahoo's.

Consider the ramifications: A person posts, "I feel like I want to die." Many, many people post a response offering good advice. However, some people, though, post bad advise, some from ignorance, and some because they get a twistd pleasure in making other people feel bad.

The person in need of help reads a particularly vicious response, and they bbecome so distressed that they actually harm or kill themselves right then and there. A parent comes home later and finds their child dead inj front of a computer screen that reads, "Slice your wrists!! YES YES!!! You ARE worthless!!!" After they try and fail to save their child, and while first trying to find any kind of explanation, they find this message still on the screen a few hours later as no one has refreshed or updated it.

Hello, lawsuit.

I have answered suicide questions here also. My sister committed suicide in January '07 and this is personal to me. I don't think Yahoo is the right place for a suicide question but I do think if one comes up that Yahoo has the responsibility to trace where the question came from and refer it to the appropriate authorities in that community to handle the problem. I also think it is a place for ignorant people to play games and this would also stop that problem. What kid is going to want the police at their door sometimes in the middle of the night. Alternatively Yahoo could state plainly where everyone can see that Suicide postings will be deleted.

the belief is that whether that's reported wisely, Yahoo will touch the guy and get them in touch with specialists. consistently report those questions via fact the main intense violations with a good clarification and likewise deliver an e mail to the YAT. maximum of those are violations, in many situations for chatting and maximum are probable bogus. that's greater acceptable to permit YA and specialists cope with it. no one in this internet site could ever be coping with authentic suicide posts. If YAT ever enable them to stay, this might develop right into a communicate room the place each and every person began the chat with a lament on suicide.

I didnt know they were deleting them, how do you know ?
Are you asking them?
I am a counselor with battered women so i have dealt with many situations, so what i would have to say is that they dont want anyone to get any "ideas" from the questions put out...If they are too informative, they may give someone who is seriously contemplating it, enough of an idea on how to follow it thru.
Since youre a counselor, you already knew that...so why ask?? Do you have another reason?

Its important not give how-to advice to these people. The difference between this forum and a face-to-face is the ability to differentiate between the serious and the attention seekers. I work in mental health and in crisis counseling and rarely are people as suicidal as they claim. Serious suicidals rarely tell someone.

We only consider questions from the living. By the time you answer the person who asked the question is already dead.
