The typical snide answer is not to marry your mother. Greek plays are early products of insightful looks into personalities of people who are not altogether good or bad. It is Oedipus' stubborness that leads to his doom, but he faces it bravely when it happens.

BTW: Read "Antigone". It's message echos over 2500 years to the days of the Vietnam War. Some things never change in people.

Life is full of bad karma. Don't do anything that doesn't pass the smell test or else you'll end up marrying your mother and blinding your eyes with her brooches.
