Disabled Citizens often live on very limited income, and those who do have a disability pension often spend a great deal of money on medical expenses, prescription drugs, and care giving. So I do not understand why the disabled are not given same the consideration that Senior Citizens are given.

I agree with you totally. It's
not very equitable.
How can we change this?
The one spot of good news is
that where I live--In a HUD
Senior Complex, disabled
prople are given priority OVER
Seniors. They also have
apts specially equipped for
disabled and wheelchairs.
Write your state legislators.
It was our Patty Berg who is
now a state Assemblywoman
that got perks for Seniors.

Our transit system provides half-fare to all Seniors and disabled. That includes the thirty day passes as well. Our local minor league ball park gives a discount on tickets to disabled people, but none for senior citizens. Even though most of the 150+ other minor league parks afford discounts to both.
That dual- discount system is also true for ever transit system I have used in the U.S., including New Jersey Transit and Amtrak. What was a truly stupid move was the one made in the previous administration by some bureaucrat in the federal Department of Transportation. Since the Feds provide most of the funding for paratransit systems in the U.S., this bureaucrat decided that the discount pass used on fixed-route transit systems could not be used on paratransit. The rider must pay the cash fare each way. As a result, folks in wheelchairs and walkers were forced onto the fixed-route systems. Something that many of them didn't want to do.
I think that these "decision makers" should have to go through the type of training I went through in Navy Hospital Corps School. For eight hours I was blindfolded, to simulate blindness. The idea was to teach me what it was like to be blind, so that I could be a better health care provided to those who were.

A star for a very interesting Q. You have a good point! Only problem is, even before I had to use a walker due to polio muscle atrophy, and other health issues that were diableing, people thought I was in great shape! You cannot always tell by looking at a person as to their being disabeled,i.e. serious heart condition, etc. And many healthy people use relative's cars with the permit for parking which is illegal so it would be a hard call in the long run. I am a sr. citizen but I do not make use of discounts since I can afford whatever so why use it when other's need it so much more.

We abuse the system and like the rip offs on medicare, it will not be there for our children and grandchildren,e tc. That makes me angry.

I have paid for my own power chair, scooter, chair lift, etc. for that reason.+

That sounds so unfair. Is this in the USA. Here in Australia, they both have discounts..Except of course prescription drugs cost the same for everyone, until you reach a certain limit per year.

don't be attentive to why no longer, regardless of the undeniable fact that it is the shops appropriate to refuse to furnish the affordable to anybody different than the senior. Classier to no longer ask somebody to call that form interest to themselves. (concern approximately your guy or woman skivvies -- mine are sanfordized so they do no longer wad) think of I misunderstood the question: If what's being offered is with a recipiant this is furnishing the money and is not any longer entitled to the affordable, it could/won't be legal, regardless of the undeniable fact that it is the suitable in 'CHEAPO' and disgusting.

I think it depends on where you live, here in Scotland there is a low income form that you can send away and you get your medication free for a year if you qualify. it has to be renewed every year. I know this is correct as I have a friend who gets it.

Is 10 cents off a dollar really going to help the situation? I live on a limited SS widows allowance. I do not see masses of great perks for people in my age catagory. I am sorry you are disabled but I don't think you are missing out on much.

rightly said. in fact disabled citizen should get more discounts than even senior citizens.senior citizens have finished their responsibility & they are spending their money for themselves. ( ofcourse it is limited income. ) but many disabled citizens are still young & there are many who are depending on them. ( like parents, family , etc )hope our govt. will do something for them which will not affect their dignity.
