How big can oto fish (algae eaters) can get?

I just bought two algae eaters and I want to know how big they can get I also want to know how can I tell their gender. Thanks!

They usually stay 1 1/2 to 2 inches at the very most. Unfortunately, there aren't any obvious differences in the genders other than males being slightly smaller than females of the same age.

I have seen one about 8" long. It was pretty expensive too. I have not seen any specifics on gender. The one I saw was black and looked like a catfish with a shark"s tail.
